Estudi històric de la ciutat portuària. Barcelona, 1780 – 1830

Resum – Durant els últims anys s’han multiplicat els treballs històrics sobre la ciutat, que han renovat la tradició de la història urbana. Dins aquest àmbit, la ciutat portuària també ha estat objecte d’investigacions, la majoria de les quals han destacat el caràcter peculiar d’aquest tipus d’aglomeració urbana. L’objectiu d’aquest treball és buscar tots aquells elements que ens permeten estudiar històricament la ciutat portuària. D’una banda, a través de la conceptualització d’aquesta, resseguint la bibliografia sobre la temàtica. De l’altra, mitjançant l’estudi d’un cas, el de la ciutat de Barcelona a finals del segle XVIII i principis del XIX. Ens centrem en matèries àmpliament tractades per la historiografia com el comerç, les relacions entre la ciutat i l’Estat o els vincles socials urbans, però des del punt de vista de la ciutat portuària com a entitat. Així mateix, altres assumptes menys recorrents com els canvis urbanístics en la façana marítima, les institucions pròpies de la ciutat portuària o la seva comunitat estrangera també hi tenen un espai aquí. Tots aquests elements són contrastats amb els d’altres ciutats que poden tenir un perfil semblant com Gènova, Marsella o Hamburg.

Abstract – Over recent years the historical studies about the city have multiplied and have renewed the urban history tradition. Within this field, the port city has also been a subject of investigations, and most of them have pointed out the distinctive nature of this type of urban agglomeration. The aim of this dissertation is to search for all the items that allow us to study the port city historically. On one hand, through the conceptualization of it, tracing back the bibliography about the issue. On the other hand, through the case study of Barcelona from the end of Eighteenth century to the beginning of Nineteenth century. It focuses on different topics widely studied by the historiography such as trade, relations between the State and the city or the social urban ties, but from the point of view of the port city as a whole. Likewise, less common issues such as the urban development in the seafront, the peculiar institutions of the port city or the foreign community are also discussed here. All these items are contrasted with the ones in other cities that have similar profile, like Genoa, Marseille or Hamburg.
